Murder convict in Maharashtra's Yerawada jail kills prisoner

The prisoners had a spat over a minor issue after which the murder convict smashed Sukhdeo Mahapur's head with a stone.

MUMBAI: A murder convict at Pune’s Yerawada Central Jail on Saturday afternoon killed a prisoner while the two were working in the jail's kitchen over an alleged scuffle.

The deceased, Sukhadeo Mahapur (43), who was serving his prison sentence of 3.5 years in a kidnapping case, was working in the jail kitchen with Dinesh Dabade (35), who was sentenced to life for murder. They had a spat over a minor issue after which Dinesh smashed Sukhdeo Mahapur’s head with a stone.

The incident happened at around 12.30 pm and jail administration informed police who are investigating the case, said sources.
