SRINAGAR: After Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti accused China of meddling into the State, opposition leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday asked her to explain Dragon’s role in worsening Kashmir situation.
“Mehbooba needs to explain the nature of Chinese involvement in the worsening security environment in J&K, especially the valley,” Omar tweeted.
He was referring to Mehbooba’s statement she gave after her meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in national capital on Saturday.
After the meeting, she blamed external forces for Kashmir situation and said now unfortunately China is also trying to meddle into it.
Omar said in six years as CM of the State, he was never given any intelligence reports of Chinese meddling in J&K other than of occasional incursions in parts of Ladakh.
Talking to reporters after casting his vote for presidential election at J&K Assembly here, he said during his tenure as CM, he never talked of China.
“Now CM Mehbooba is blaming China for Kashmir situation,” he said.
Omar said she used to blame Pakistan for the Kashmir situation and now is blaming China also. “After China, she would blame the third country.”
He said everybody knows about Pakistan’s role in Kashmir but where from China’s involvement came from.
“Since Lok Sabha session has begun today, we want threadbare discussion should be held on the issue in parliament so that we know how CM Mehbooba talked of China and how much China has involvement in J&K internal situation,” Omar said.
Hitting out at Mehbooba, he said she was holding everyone responsible for the deteriorating situation in Kashmir except herself.
"The biggest reason for the deteriorating situation in the state, especially Kashmir is the failure of the chief minister," he said adding, “She should do her work properly and let New Delhi handle the Pakistan and China front.”
However, PDP youth wing president Waheed Parra took to twitter to defend Mehbooba saying, “What does regular skirmishes on borders in Ladakh, VETO on Azhar Masood, significant presence in PaK & CPEC signify?”
“A third country is building a 1100 MWs power project in a territory, which is disputed”.
He said it seems hard for people to grasp that Mehbooba is the only CM who spoke blatantly about it. “It takes courage and intellect to reflect on issues.”
Parra hit out at Omar saying, “You need some intellect as well to comment on such issues”.
