SHIMLA: Kotkhai Gudiya rape and murder case accused, who was killed in police custody last week, was cremated here today after the CBI released the body.
The CBI had re-examined the body lying in the mortuary at IGMC here and allowed it to be cremated and district administration handed over the body to his widow Mamta, who has been kept in Narinikaten under heavy security after the mysterious death of her husband on the night of July 18.
Mamta along with her two kids was present at the Sanjauli crematorium and her three-and-a-half-year-old son lit the pyre.
The district administration provided Mangal Sutra, Sindoor and other items as required by Mamta while the Nepali community arranged for the funeral.
Initially, the Nepali's were not ready to perform the cremation and insisted that Suraj's parents and brother have not been informed about his death and in case he was cremated they would blame Mamta for it and also not spare us.
However, the SDM told them that the body was lying in the mortuary for past one week and started decomposing and it is not possible to delay the cremation following which the Nepalese agreed to cremate the body.
As per the police, another accused Rajender has killed Suraj in the police custody but people were not convinced with the version of the police and violence erupted in Kotkhai and other places after the custodial death.
The state government has already referred the case to the CBI which has formed an SIT and investigations are in progress.
It was alleged that the minor girl had gone to school on July 5, but did not return home. Her body was found in the morning of July 6 from a nearby forest.
On a complaint lodged by her father with Kotkhai police station, an FIR was registered against unknown persons. The local police then arrested six suspects.
