One feared dead, several injured as Gurdwara collapses in Haryana

Police sources said that construction work was going on in the gurdwara and the roof of the third floor collapsed, bringing down one side of the building.

CHANDIGARH: At least one person was feared dead and six others injured when the roof of Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sahib collapsed in Panipat, Haryana on Monday evening.

Police sources said that construction work was going on in the gurdwara and the roof of the third floor collapsed, bringing down one side of the building.

Some devotees were preparing langar when the incident occurred, and it was feared that several people were trapped under the rubble.

Around five people have been rescued till now by the district administration. The injured were sent to the Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal and a hospital in Khanpur.

The reason behind the collapse is yet to be ascertained but officials pointed out that the building was very old.
Located on the busy national highway 1, the Gurudwara collapse resulted in a traffic jam.
