Tourism ministry invites 53 international guests to promote Yoga Day

A group of 53 international guests comprising photographers, Yoga Gurus and opinion makers from across the globe have been invited on a familiarisation trip to promote Yoga Day.

NEW DELHI: Apart from creating awareness through various social media platforms, ministry of Tourism has invited a group of 53 international guests comprising photographers, Yoga Gurus and opinion makers from across the globe on a familiarisation trip to promote Yoga Day.

Officials said that the group will participate in the main IDY celebrations on June 21 at Lucknow which will be attended by the PM. Thereafter, it will then visit various yoga institutions and wellness centres in the country to gain first-hand knowledge and promote India as a destination for yoga in their respective countries.

Officials said that the ministry is taking number of initiatives to promote Yoga and a radio spot, a television commercial and posters are some of those many ways. It has made a 30-second radio spot to promote yoga which is being broadcast on 17 All India Radio FM stations.

While, a 60-second television commercial to popularize India as the land of yoga has been developed, a month-long TV campaign to create awareness about yoga will be launched on Doordarshan network on Yoga Day on June 21.

Union minister of Tourism Mahesh Sharma said that yoga is said to be the reason behind the intellectual, physical and emotional development of a human being. He also referred to the PM saying, “Yoga is the main reason behind his energy level. He concentrates throughout the long meetings of three-four hours and this is because of yoga,” he added.

The ministry is also promoting the June 21 event through its social media handles. International Yoga Day (IDY) posters and standees have been put up at India Tourism's domestic and international offices.
