NEW DELHI: Hitting out at former finance minister P. Chidambaram  and his son Karthi Chidambaram, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said that economic affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das should be removed as he is favouring the former UPA minister.

“The Income Tax investigation wing Chennai had found and compiled the huge illegal investments abroad and established his (Chidambaram) illegal secret bank accounts. The report was submitted six months ago to the Ministry of Finance but no action however followed because of certain senior officials owing allegiance to Chidambaram in the Ministry have blocked further action and are preventing honest officers from doing their duty” said Swamy.

In a letter written to the Prime Minister Swamy has said that the documents submitted in the report by the IT department Karthi allegedly took commission from companies in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) deals pending with his father at the time he was Finance Minister. A company by the name of ASCPL Karthi’s company which is involved in the Aircel-Maxis scam transacted huge sum of money to accounts in Singapore for buying properties in UK Somerset and Cambridge.

“The big house in Cambridge belongs to the Chidambaram family as per the documents seized by IT, but nobody declared the source of income for its acquisition is a grave illegality. Chidambaram and his entire are guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Money Laundering Act. Almost 15 percent of land in Bangalore is owned by this single family. They should be arrested immediately, the Prime Minister should intervene and remove the Chidambaram friendly officers from the ministry of finance” Swamy added.

According to Swamy, Das was working under Chidambaram when he was the union finance minister, so he owes his allegiance to him and not to the present dispensation.
