SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s cinematographer brother, Tassaduq Mufti, who is contesting bypolls to parliamentary seat from Anantnag-Pulwama seat in South Kashmir, is a crorepati and so is his interior designer wife.

Tassaduq is wealthier than Mehbooba, who is only a lakhpati and not even a crorepati.

According to affidavit filed by 45-year-old Tassaduq Mufti before Returning Officer for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, he has moveable assets worth Rs 32.33 lakhs including Rs 18,000 cash.

Tassaduq is making electoral debut by contesting bypolls to Anantnag Lok Sabha seat on PDP ticket.

Tassaduq’s wife Radhika Kapur, who is an interior designer, has moveable assets worth Rs 61.09 lakhs. It includes 1500 grams of jewelry and gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakhs. She has Rs 9000 cash in hand.

The affidavit further reveals that Tassaduq has immoveable assets including land and houses worth Rs 23.70 crores while his wife has immoveable assets worth Rs 10.5 crores.

Tasaduq has liabilies worth Rs 96 lakhs. It includes Rs 58 lakh housing loan from HDFC bank and Rs  9 lakh car loan from HDFC. Besides, he owes a builder Rs 29 lakhs for a flat at Gurugram, Haryana.

However, his wife does not have any bank loans.

Tassaduq, who is better known for his cinematography in Bollywood movies Omkara and Kaminey, joined the active politics on January 7 this year, which was the first death anniversary of his father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Contesting from Anantnag constituency, which is highly militancy-affected and was the epicenter of over five month long unrest in Valley last year, would be the first electoral test for Tassaduq.

The election for the seat was necessitated after Mehbooba Mufti, who had won the seat in 2014 general elections, resigned from the parliamentary constituency after becoming chief minister of the State on April 4 last year.

Surprisingly, Tassaduq’s sister and J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti is not a crorepati.

According to affidavit filed by her last year, she is only a lakhpati.

57-year-old Mehbooba has moveable assets worth Rs 10.96 lahs.

However, she does not own any jewellery.

Mehbooba has immovable assets worth 45 lakhs. Her immovable assets include 1 kanal land at her native place at Bijbehara in South Kashmir and a house in a built-up area of 2000 sq ft.

Mehbooba, who has done her LLB from Kashmir University in 1982, does not have any liability or bank loans.

Mehbooba took over as CM of the State on April 4 last year after death of her father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, 2016.
