The incident took place at Milanpur area of Kakopathar in the district at around 7:20 pm. The victims were identified as Jitendra Prasad Singh and Rinki. Singh deals in rice.

“We are trying to find out if it was a grenade or crude bomb blast. We suspect the hand of the militants in the incident. They (victims) suffered minor injuries and were discharged from hospital,” Tinsukia superintendent of police, Mugdhajyoti Mahanta, told the New Indian Express.

“Singh told us that he did not receive any extortion demand from any. We are investigating,” Mahanta added. The Paresh Baruah faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) has a strong base in Tinsukia district. Over the past many years, the outfit killed dozens of Hindi-speaking people here.
