SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident, a woman in Jammu and Kashmir has alleged that a police officer and cops of a police station stripped her and inserted chilli powder and a beer bottle in her private parts while she was in the police custody.
The 25-year-old woman (name withheld), hailing from Dhayaran area of Kana Chak in Jammu district, alleged that she was tortured and sexually assaulted by policemen inside a police station a fortnight back.
“I work as a domestic help. I had an argument with the lady in whose house I work as a maid. After the argument, the lady, who was running a clinic from her house, got me arrested on frivolous charges of theft,” she said.

The cops of Kana Chak police station, she said, arrested her from her house and lodged her in police station. “The torture and sexual assault on me continued till I was shifted to women’s cell,” the woman said.

After remaining in detention for a fortnight, the woman was granted bail on Saturday last. After being granted bail, she was admitted to a hospital in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The woman’s allegations have caused an outrage in Jammu. Deputy commissioner of Jammu, Rajiv Ranjan, told the New Indian Express that IGP Jammu has ordered an inquiry into the allegations. City judge of Jammu heard the case and directed police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
