Here’s how the government’s new portal to investigate tax defaulters as part of its campaign against black money will work:
Portal will identify those who have made large deposits or purchases that are not in line with their declared income
Details of raids by Income Tax department will be put up on the website and gover nment will rate defaulters from high to low risk
The infor mation will be kept confidential and can be accessed by logging on to cleanmoney.gov.in using PAN details
The website can be used by individuals to e-verify their cash deposits and transactions
Data analytics will be used to pick cases for verification, based on risk criteria. If a case is selected for verification, a request for additional information and its response will be communicated electronically
