KOLKATA: Kolkata girl Ananya Maity, who topped the All India Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) results with a score of 99.5%, says that students must study the subjects he or she loves.

“I would tell the students to study the subject that he or she loves. There is no point in studying for the sake of it,” she told New Indian Express.

The humanities student of The Heritage School in Kolkata wants to pursue Psychology for graduation. “Many of the students opt for Science after scoring high marks in Class X. I got 95.2% in Class X but I loved Arts so took up Humanities,” she added.

Asked how she prepared for the examination, Ananya says that she just concentrated on studies during study hours. “I did not put any extra effort. Just passionately studied my subjects,” she said.

Ananya’s father Dr Chinmay Kumar Maity said they were returning from native village when he got the news of her daughter’s results.

“We were overjoyed when we heard about my daughter’s results. She wants to pursue Psychology. We don’t want her to be very far away from us. So, I think Calcutta University is a good option,” he said.

However, Ananya differs from her father’s plans.

“Most colleges in Calcutta Universities don’t offer Psychology. I would love to stay in the city but I think I will have to migrate,” she added.
