GONDA: One person was killed while two others were injured as unidentified assailants attacked them with sharp-edged weapons in Sahabganj locality here, leading to tension in the area.

The deceased had just come out of a religious place after offering prayers yesterday night when the attack took place, police said today.

While Pappu Mistri (23) died on the spot, the injured person was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to Lucknow, police said, adding a bystander who tried to chase the culprits was also injured.

People in large numbers took to the street in the minority-dominated area in protest against the incident.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by assuring locals that prompt action will be taken against the culprits.

The situation in the area is now under control, police said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had yesterday reviewed the law and order situation in the district.
