BHOPAL: As many as five cops were suspended for the delay in taking action against the four men who allegedly gangraped a 19-year-old cop couple’s daughter.

Three police station house officers (SHO), including Ravindra Yadav (Habibganj), Sanjay Singh Bais (MP Nagar) and Mohit Saxena (Habibganj GRP), and two sub-inspectors of city police were suspended for their alleged negligence which led to the delay in registering the offence.

In addition to that, the CSP of MP Nagar circle, Kulwant Singh has been removed from the post and attached to the state police headquarters in Bhopal, said general of state police (IG Law and Order) Makrand Deuskar.

The incident happened on the night of October 31, when the 19-year-old daughter of a police constable mother and a Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel father was on her way to Habibganj railway station after attending a coaching class in MP Nagar locality of Bhopal.

Four men allegedly caught hold of her near the railway tracks, just 100 meters from the Habibganj railway station RPF outpost and raped her.
On November 1, after she recounted the incident to her parents, the girl’s mother accompanied her to the MP Nagar police station to lodge a case. However, the police did not, stating that the area where the incident happened did not come under its jurisdiction.

The case of gang rape, loot and crime with common intent was lodged against the accused only after 24 hours on Wednesday evening at Habibganj GRP police station at around 7 pm.

Taking cognizance of the matter, a special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted under the supervision of DIG (Crime Against Women) Sudhir Kumar Lad to complete the investigations in the case.

The SIT will comprise investigators from Government Railway Police (GRP), city police and the Mahila Thana and will be aided by a team of forensic experts and prosecution officers.

Inspector general Deuskar further informed that three of the four accused who allegedly gangraped the girl have been arrested, “While one of them has been sent to police custody, the other two have been sent to judicial custody. Multiple teams have been constituted to track and nab the fourth accused who is on the run,” he said.
