CHANDIGARH: A 56-year-old army colonel has been remanded in three days’ police custody for allegedly raping the 21-year-old adopted daughter of a lieutenant colonel posted at the Army Training Command in Shimla after promising to make her a model.
The colonel, arrested on Wednesday on the girl’s complaint, was produced in a Shimla court. He had got along a friend who, too, allegedly raped the girl. The friend has yet to be arrested. The report of the test done on the girl to confirm rape is awaited.
The girl filed a complaint on Monday in the Shimla (Sadar) police station that the colonel called her to her residence on the pretext of introducing her with people associated with the modelling industry. Then he forced her to drink, after which he and his friend allegedly raped her. He apparently threatened to ‘ruin’ her father’s career if she told anyone about the incident.
Sources said the colonel had called the girl and her father to the Gaiety Theater on Mall Road for a show. Over dinner later, he told her she was modeling material and that he would use his contacts in Mumbai to help launch her career. The next day, he asked her to send him her pictures and called her to a studio. After that, he took her home where the alleged rape happened.
DGP Somesh Goyal said: “We are investigating as per the victim’s complaint. I have asked Shimla SP to give a report.’’
