NEW DELHI: Wading into the controversy surrounding the renaming of Dyal Singh College (Evening), the chairman of the institution said there couldn’t be a better name than Vande Mataram and those opposing it were ‘anti-nationals.’

“There is nothing wrong in naming a college Vande Mataram, those who are opposing and protesting against the renaming of DSC are anti-nationals,” said Amitabh Sinha, BJP leader and chairman of the DSC governing body on Friday.

The General Body of DSC on November 17 decided to change the evening college’s name to Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya after turning it into a day college. Irked by the move, many students groups and teacher held protests against the renaming of the college.

“There is neither a legal nor technical issue with the name, but some Opposition parties especially the Shiromani Akali Dal, is creating problems to show the public that the Sikh Community is concerned over the issue and is also giving me threats to harm me and my family,” Amitabh added.
