'Rebels' hurl IED at Manipur MLA’s house

The MLA said he had no idea about the perpetrators of the crime.

GUWAHATI: Suspected militants lobbed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the house of a BJP MLA Heikham Dingo Singh in Manipur’s Sekmai. Fortunately, it did not explode.

“At around 6:30 Saturday morning, I was informed about the recovery of an unexploded IED from the campus of my house. I was at a guest house last night,” he said. “My mother stays in the house along with my brother and sister. But they all have gone to New Delhi for my mother medical checkup,” he added.

The MLA said he had no idea about the perpetrators of the crime.

“I have no idea as to who had lobbed the IED and when. There is no threat to my life as I don’t have any known enemies,” Singh said.

Singh has lodged a FIR with the police, who visited his house to conduct an investigation.

The incident came hours after Friday night’s grenade blast at a fairground in state capital Imphal that left 11 people, including two children, injured. While some of the injured were discharged from hospital after first aid, a few others, who sustained grievous injuries, are still undergoing treatment.

The police said two youths, who were riding a two-wheeler, had hurled the Chinese grenade at the fair venue in Tera and fled. So far, no arrest could be made in connection with the incident.
