BSF man killed, civilian injured in Pakistan troops firing in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A BSF man was killed and a civilian injured as Pakistani troops breached border ceasefire and fired on security forces positions and civilian areas along the International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
A BSF official said Pakistani troops breached border ceasefire in Arnia sector of Jammu region in the midnight.
“At around 01.10 am, Pakistani troops fired from small and heavy arms towards the BSF positions and civilian areas in Nikowal, Budhwar, Buley-Chak, S H Beh and Shahnaz forward posts in Arnia sector,” he said.
The official said the BSF men guarding the forward posts also returned the fire from similar caliber weapons.
He said constable Brijendra Bahadur Singh of 192 bn BSF, sustained bullet injuries in abdomen in Pakistani troops firing at Shahnaz post early in the morning.
The injured jawan was shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu, where he was declared brought dead.
Singh, 34, hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
A police official said a civilian Ajay Kumar also sustained bullet injuries in Pakistani troops firing in Pawal area of Arnia sector.
He said Kumar was evacuated to hospital, where doctors are attending on him.
The official said the firing between border guards and Pakistani troops continued till this afternoon.
He said the administration had advised the border residents to stay indoors and not venture out during cross border firing and shelling.
The wreath laying ceremony of the slain BSF man was held at FTR hqrs BSF Camp Paloura, Jammu. J&K Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, IG BSF Jammu Ram Awtar and other top security officials paid rich tribute to the slain BSF man.
“As a peaceful country, we never initiated fire from our side but will never hesitate to give befitting reply if compelled,” IG BSF said.
Speaking on the occasion, Nirmal said BSF has the history of bravery and it is the most professional force to protect the sovereignty of the national boundary.
“People of nation can sleep fearlessly because BSF men are on duty along the frontiers,” he said.
On September 7, two army porters were injured in Pakistani troops firing in Poonch sector.
Earlier, on September 4, BSF men had foiled an infiltration bid of militants along International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu by killing a militant.
On September 1, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of BSF Kamaljit Singh was killed in Pakistani troops firing in Krishna Ghati (KG) sector of Poonch.
