KOLKATA: Vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University Suranjan Das today proposed to set up a visiting chair in the varsity, and name it after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"Given the cultural and traditional ties between India and Bangladesh, I have a proposal to set up a visiting chair in Jadavpur University and name it after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. If the Bangladesh government agrees, then we can take it up with the West Bengal government," Das said, while addressing a program here.

The program was jointly conducted by Jadavpur University and Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata. It was attended by Das, Bangladesh's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Shahriar Alam and political adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister, H T Imam.

"We congratulate him for this proposal. But as there are financial engagements related to it, I will go back and discuss it with our government. But personally, I am in favour of it," Alam said.
