MUMBAI: Fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar, in the custody of Thane police, has said that Dawood’s wife Mehajabin had visited Mumbai last year. According to Iqbal, Mehajabin was in Mumbai to visit her father, a senior police officer told the New Indian Express here Friday. Mehajabin Shaikh, also known as Zubeena Zarin, came to Mumbai to meet her father Salim Kashmiri, who lives here with his family. She left the country quietly after meeting her father, Iqbal revealed, said the officer.

Iqbal, who was arrested by the anti-extortion cell of the Thane police, is being interrogated by officials including those from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and has made several startling revelations, the officer said. Iqbal had earlier told the interrogators that Dawood, a designated global terrorist, is still in Pakistan and had changed four residences in the past few years. He has also provided addresses of four residences of Dawood in Karachi, the official said.

According to information revealed by Iqbal, Dawood, his other brother Anees Ibrahim and his close aide Chhota Shakeel are all staying together in a posh locality in the port city of Karachi. Dawood has stopped contacting his family members a few years back and if and when he wants to, he does so through Anees. Iqbal is known to be close to Anees, who is reportedly in charge of gold, silver and narcotics smuggling operations of the ‘D’ company.

Iqbal is the fifth of Dawood’s 11 siblings and he was deported from the United Arab Emirates in March 2003. Unlike his brothers Anees and Noora, Iqbal and Mustakin (who is elder to him) never went to Karachi.

The team that is interrogating Iqbal for the last four days, also asked him about Dawood’s health, to which he is reported to have said that his elder brother is “fit and fine” and not suffering from any ailment.

Police are trying to verify his claims, the officer added. Iqbal also told interrogators that he met Dawood in Dubai sometime around 2003. However, the police have doubts about the date and suspect Iqbal could be mixing up matters. In July 2005, when Dawood’s daughter Mahrukh married former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad’s son Junaid, there were reports that Dawood had attended the wedding in West Asia. Police suspect this could be when the brothers last met.
