Chhattisgarh farmer gets Rs 76.73 crore electricity bill

The farmer has taken his complaint to the electricity department where a senior officer of the power company said it was due to a technical error.

RAIPUR: A farmer in Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh got the shock of his life when the state power distribution company sent him an inflated electricity bill for Rs 76.73 crore for September.

Ram Prasad is a small farmer. “I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Our connection is for domestic use only.”

He has until the end of this month to pay up. The farmer has taken his complaint to the electricity department. A senior officer of the power company said it was due to a technical error, which would be rectified.
