Omkareshwar dam filled to 192 metres in violation of High Court order: AAP

The Madhya Pradesh unit of AAP alleged that the Omkareshwar dam is filled to 192.4 metres, violating a High Court's order that restricts the water level to 189 metres.

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today alleged that the Omkareshwar dam in Khandwa district is filled to 192.4 metres, violating a High Court's order that restricts the water level to 189 metres.

"Khandwa Collector, in an order on September 10, had stated that the Omkareshwar reservoir can be filled to 189 meters as per the High Court's permission. But the water level has reached 192.4 metres," state AAP convener Alok Agrawal told reporters here.

As a result, several agricultural fields are submerged and water has entered houses in the catchment area, he alleged.

"AAP demands that the affected persons should be first rehabilitated properly, he said.

"Water level should be immediately brought down to 189 metres as per the HC's order of 2008," he demanded.
