Nine pilgrims dead in vehicle collision in Uttar Pradesh 

At least nine pilgrims were killed when their vehicle collided with a truck on Karnal-Meerut highway in Shamli district today, the police said.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: At least nine pilgrims were killed when their vehicle collided with a truck on Karnal-Meerut highway in Shamli district today, the police said.

Circle Officer Rajesh Tiwari said the victims were returning from a trip to Vaishno Devi.

He said seven persons died on the spot, while the remaining two lost their lives during treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Premvati (58), Sangita (28), Honey (3), Nidhi (30), Jaykishan (40), Neetu (27), Savitri (30), Jayram (38) and Jaidev (26)--all belonging to Meerut, the officer said.

Three other persons are undergoing treatment at a hospital here, he added.
