BHOPAL: The Voter Verfiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, which allow voters to verify their votes are cast correctly, will be used in all 230 assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh later this year.

“There will be 100% use of VVPAT machines during the assembly polls. We’re trying to get new EVMs in time for the assembly polls,” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat said on Tuesday.

Rawat held meetings with the EC officials to take stock of preparations for the assembly polls that are likely to be held by year-end.

The CEC also met representatives of various political parties. On the simultaneous state and national elections, Rawat said for that, a suitable amendment to the Constitution and the election law is needed first.

“Once it’s done, we need to see whether we’ve sufficient machines, staff and security forces for making it possible.”

Confirming that one of the political parties had sought shunting of RSS affiliate government staffers from poll duties, Rawat said the request will be examined first.

A CPI delegation sought that the government staffers who have been allowed to take part in RSS activities be kept away from poll duties.

A Congress delegation also met Rawat and handed him a three-page representation on seven points.
