LUCKNOW: Unnao BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar accused of rape, intimidation and assault, was picked by CBI in an early morning swoop down at his residence at around 4:30 am here on Friday for questioning.

He has been taken to the Lucknow office of the premier probe agency and will be formally arrested now.
As per the sources, the CBI took over the probe into Unnao rape and assault case immediately after receiving the documents sent by the state government on the intervention of the PMO to speed up the proceedings.

Earlier, on Thursday, the Unnao police had lodged a case against the MLA under sections Sections 363, 366, 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape, abduction, and intimidation and provisions of POCSO Act were also invoked against him.

The FIR in the case came through on the basis of the preliminary report filed by the SIT constituted by the state government to look into all the aspects of the case and check the veracity of the charges levelled by the aggrieved woman against the MLA. The SIT was also given the mandate to probe the assault on girl's father and his subsequent custodial death.

However, the state police had put the onus of arresting the MLA on CBI on the merit of the case since the probe was referred to central probe agency.

Even the Allahabad High Court had taken a strong notice of the delay in the MLA's arrest on Thursday and had reserved its order for Friday in the case which the court had taken up suo motu on Wednesday.

Earlier, five persons, including MLA's brother Atul Singh Sengar, had already been arrested in the case. Five cops of Makhi police station, and two doctors of district hospital had been suspended for laxity in the performance of their respective duties in the case. Besides, CO, Safipur police station was also put on suspension for ignoring the rape
victim's repeated pleas.

The rape survivor had attempted self immolation at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house on last Sunday seeking his intervention to get the MLA and his accomplices arrested for rape and assaulting her father brutally following which he died on Monday.
