Fire in Kolaghat power station, generation not affected

KOLKATA: A fire broke out at the Kolaghat Thermal Power Station (KTPS) this evening but was brought under control without any generation getting affected.

"A fire was reported in a transformer but was brought under control. There has been no impact on generation," a West Bengal Power Development Corporation spokesperson said.

Officers rushed to the site for a detailed investigation.

"The fire was spotted at around 6 pm. Two fire tenders of the plant and two others of the fire brigade controlled the fire within an hour," KTPS General Manager Tapas Patra said.

The fire was suspected to have been caused by a short-circuit, Patra said.

The fire triggered panic in the locality.
