NEW DELHI: The BJP today demanded resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following allegations that AAP MLAs assaulted Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash, and accused him of bringing "anarchy and lawlessness" in the city leading to a "constitutional crisis".

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Kejriwal of "raining down choicest of abuses" on Prakash and claimed that the spat was not caused by any issue of public importance but over the Delhi chief secretary's objections to his government's demand of releasing funds for advertisements praising the AAP chief.

He claimed that never before had any state witnessed such a situation in which a chief secretary was physically assaulted by the ruling party MLAs on the directions of a chief minister.

Patra alleged that AAP MLAs held the top city bureaucrat by his hands and physically assaulted him.

They were encouraged by Kejriwal's use of abuses in Hindi and then slapped and mistreated him, he alleged.

Kejriwal's office had dismissed the charges as "bizarre and baseless".

"He has no moral right to continue. The BJP demands his resignation," Patra told reporters.

To a question about the AAP's accusation that the central government was using bureaucrats to corner its government, he said Kejriwal's party resorts to "deception" to hide the truth and had a habit of "crying wolf".

The AAP leader had declared himself an anarchist long back and was continuing in a similar manner, he said.

"There is a constitutional crisis in Delhi and it has been caused by the lawlessness of Arvind Kejriwal and his MLAs.

The government's job is to maintain law and order and their behaviour is absolutely appalling," Patra alleged.

He claimed that the midnight anarchy was triggered by the chief secretary's invocation of a Supreme Court order on regulating government advertisements as Kejriwal and his MLAs sought more funds to "glorify" the AAP leader.

He alleged that Kejriwal was frustrated due to the disqualification of 21 party MLAs as he knew that his party would lose in the bypolls.
