Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA dies in road accident while on way to investors’ meet

Five persons, including two security guards and the driver of the MLA, died on the spot.

Lucknow: BJP legislator from Noorpur, Bijnore, Lokendra Singh Chauhan, 45, died in a road accident when his SUV collided head on with a truck at Kakaiyyapara near Sitapur on Wednesay morning. The MLA was on his way to state capital Lucknow to attend UP Investors’ Summit which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

In all five persons, including two security guards and the driver of the MLA, died on the spot in road crash which took place as the Fortuner, belonging to the MLA, was being driven at a high speed when it rammed into a truck approaching from the opposite direction.

While CM Yogi Adityanath expressed shock and grief over the fatal accident of the legislator, PM Modi expressed his "anguish" at the accident and offered his condolences on Twitter.
 
Anguished by the demise of BJP MLA from Noorpur, Lokendra Singh Chauhan due to an accident. His service towards society and role in building the BJP in UP will always be emembered. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief,” tweeted the PM.

While the driver and MLA Lokendra Singh Chauhan breathed their last on the spot, the two police gunners died during treatment at a nearby medical facility.

District Magistrate Sarika Mohan and Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni too rushed to the sight of the accident. The gunners who lost their lives were identified as Brijesh Mishra, 28, and Deepak Kumar, 30.
