The arrest comes in the wake of Karti's chartered accountant S Bhaskararaman being arrested recently from a five-star hotel in New Delhi on February 16.

The CBI has accused Karti of receiving money from INX Media for using his influence to manipulate a tax probe against it in a case of violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board conditions in 2007 to receive investment from Mauritius.

Karti was initially denied permission to go to London as CBI feared he might escape from the investigations and finally he was allowed to travel by a high court.

Reacting to the arrest, senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala told news agency ANI, "Congress will not be deterred by unleashing of vendetta against P Chidambaram and his family, we will continue to bring out the truth."
