RANCHI: Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha has once again landed himself in controversy after being caught on camera felicitating the eight persons, convicted for lynching Alimuddin Ansari in Ramgarh, who were released on Tuesday after granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court.

Earlier also, Sinha had come out in their support after their conviction saying best advocates will be engaged to fight legal battle.

Leader of Opposition and JMM Executive President Hemant Soren has condemned the act on tweeter and tagged Union Minister's alma mater saying, "Is this what Harvard stands for?"

Former State Congress President Sukhdeo Bhagat also called it a shameful act by a person who also happens to be a Union Minister.

"It is really a disgraceful act by the union minister which must be condemned by evrryone. It is nothing but an effort to give a communal angle to the incident," said Bhagat.

The minister, however, could not be contacted over phone.

Notably, eight out of 11 persons, sentenced life imprisonment by a Ramgarh Court for lynching Alimuddin Ansari a year back, were granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on Friday on the grounds of having no substantial evidence against them.

Ansari was lynched by a mob of more than 100 cow vigilantes in Ramgarh on suspicion of carrying beef in his car on June 29, 2017.

The meat trader in Jharkhand was dragged out of his car and beaten to death by a mob that suspected he was carrying beef. As Alimuddin (55) died on a Ramgarh road, his car was also set on fire.
