NEW DELHI: The CBI on Thursday filed a charge sheet against Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associate  Shashi Singh in the Unnao rape case. The two have been charged with rape of a minor under  Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, criminal conspiracy (IPC Section 120B), kidnapping (IPC Sections 363 and 366) and criminal intimidation (IPC Section 506).

The charge sheet was filed in the special CBI court in Lucknow three months after the central agency took over the probe. Sengar, a four-time MLA from Bangarmau in Unnao, was arrested on April 13.

The case came to light after the 17-year-old victim threatened to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in April.

The girl alleged that she was raped by the BJP MLA and his associate at his residence when she had gone there to seek job last year.

The charge sheet says the girl was raped by Sengar at this residence at Makhi village in Unnao district, nearly 70 km from Lucknow, at around 8 pm on June 4, 2017.

The girl was again kidnapped and raped by a separate group of accused between June 11 and June 20 last year.

The state police did not probe allegations against Sengar but filed an FIR related to gang rape that took place nearly a week later in captivity. The police registered an FIR only on April 12 this year, the day the case was handed over to the CBI.

Both the cases are being probed by the CBI now.The charge sheet says Singh had allegedly stood guard outside the room while the MLA was committing the crime.
