SRINAGAR: Two CRPF men were killed and one injured in an attack by Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in Achabal area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday.

A police official said that militants travelling in a car opened fire on a Road Opening Party (ROP) of the CRPF near Achabal in the morning.

Three CRPF men and a civilian were injured in the attack, he said.

The injured CRPF men and the civilian were referred to a nearby hospital, where one of the critically injured paramilitary jawan was declared brought dead.

Two other injured CRPF men were evacuated to the Army hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

However, one of the critically injured CRPF jawans died in the Army hospital.

The deceased jawans were identified as Assistant Sub Inspector ML Meena and constable Sandeep Singh Yadav.

Immediately after the militant attack, the police, CRPF and Army personnel laid a siege around the area to track down the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported during an hour-long cordon and search operation.

Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for the attack.

LeT spokesman Abdullah Ghaznavi, in an emailed statement, claimed that militants of the outfit had attacked the CRPF convoy.
