SRINAGAR: Train service was suspended on Sunday as a precautionary measure in south Kashmir, where three militants were killed in a fierce encounter by security forces.

However, train service in north Kashmir between Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla was operating as per schedule, a senior railway official told UNI.

He said a fresh advisory was received from police this morning to suspend train service in south Kashmir for security reasons.

Therefore, he said, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

Hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway station in south Kashmir, were very disappointed after they were told about the cancellation of all trains.

''We came to know about the suspension of the train service only after reaching railway station,'' the passengers said.
