KOLHAPUR: To extend the support to the Maratha agitation, district lawyers on Monday refrained from their daily judicial works in the court.
Today was the seventh day of indefinite 'Thiyya Andolan (squatting down at one place for the demand) of Sakal Maratha sanghatana seeking for reservation in education and jobs.
Advocate Prashant Chitnis, president of Kolhapur District Bar Association (KDBA) said in a statement that lawyers remained abstained from daily judicial proceedings in their respective courts to support to ongoing Maratha community agitation.
The KDBA also passed a resolution that other five district bar associations including Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri districts, should support to Maratha agitation and decided to fight law suits of Maratha agitators in free of cost.
Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati sought that proposed state assembly special session for Maratha reservation should be held 'open door' and not in 'close door'.
He further warned that if the state government do not withdraw criminal cases against Maratha youth agitators, he would take them to the streets.
Meanwhile, the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has cancelled his today's tour to Sangli city, he supposed to come in Sangli for election meeting for corporation election of sangli city, as today is the last day of the campaign.
Maratha Kranti Morcha, Sangli unit had warned CM not to come here in Sangli.
On backdrop of cancelled of his visit, BJP district unit has released a six minutes video address on social media, in which Mr Fadnvis appealed citizens to vote for BJP, vote for development.
It also said, that the government has given Rs 242 crore to the corporation in last three and half years.
