NEW DELHI:  “It looks like the illegal adoption activities had been going on there for the last several years and efforts to probe them were thwarted,” a source in the NCPCR said.

“We are writing to the state director general of police and chief secretary to get details of all adoptions facilitated by the centres in the last five years.”The NCPCR will also submit a report to the Union Women and Child Development Ministry.

When contacted, Singh told The New Indian Express that he had first received a complaint against the shelter homes in late 2013, but was met with aggressive protests when he reached the spot for a probe.
“I later gave a written complaint to the state government on the incident, but action was taken against me instead of Nirmal Hriday,” he said.

“A probe by the deputy commissioner’s office found I was only doing my duty, yet the selection committee never revoked the suspension,” Singh claimed.

At present, the state crime investigations department is probing the case, though there are demands for an enquiry by the CBI.
