SRINAGAR: After PDP president Mehbooba said that aligning with the BJP was akin to "drinking poison", the saffron party on Tuesday hit out at former Chief Minister saying she is "frustrated over losing power" and asserted that she failed to deliver despite receiving total support from the Centre and BJP.

"It is not right on her part to say such things. She was Chief Minister of PDP-BJP coalition government and could have resigned had she felt anything like that," senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta told TNIE.

Mehbooba had made that bitter statement while addressing party workers on PDP's Foundation Day in Srinagar.

Gupta said it showed her frustration as there is dissidence and rebellion in the Peoples Democratic Party.

"Instead of giving such statements, we think it is the right time for her to take care of her party. She should use her energy to fix issues in her party rather than giving such irrelevant statements," Gupta said.

When Mehbooba was CM, he said, she used to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other BJP leaders. "And now unfortunately, she is speaking against PM Modi".

State BJP president and firebrand BJP MLA Ravindra Raina also hit out at Mehbooba for her remarks.

"When she was sharing power with BJP, she did not feel that it was poison. Now when she has lost the post, she claims aligning with BJP was like drinking poison," he said.

"It shows she is frustrated over losing power," he added.

The Mehbooba-led coalition government in the State collapsed after the BJP withdrew support to PDP on June 19 citing deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmir and discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh.

Mehbooba has rejected BJP's allegations of discrimination, saying she ensured development of each region of the State.
