LUCKNOW: Alok Mishra of Barabanki was upbeat on receiving a cheque for Rs 1 lakh from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for scoring 93.5 per cent marks in the UP Board class 10 exams, but the celebratory mood at his home turned into gloom when the cheque bounced.

Alok, a high school student at Young Stream Inter College in Barabanki district, had stood seventh in the state merit list and was invited to an event in Lucknow on May 29 in which the CM presented him the cheque. The cheque, signed by Raj Kumar Yadav, District Inspector of Schools, Barabanki, was deposited by Alok’s parents in the Dena Bank branch in Hazratganj area of Lucknow on June 5.

Alok’s father was informed the cheque bounced as the signature did not match that in official records. On learning about the episode, an official said a new cheque was issued to the student. Barabanki District Magistrate Uday Bhanu Tripathi called it a ‘sensitive matter’ and assured action would be taken against anyone found guilty of laxity.
