LUCKNOW: Officials of the Uttar Pradesh Estate department were taken aback on Saturday morning when they inspected the bungalow vacated by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Akhilesh and his father Mulayam have shifted to a private plush villa at an upmarket residential project on the outskirts of Lucknow. Though Akhilesh vacated the bungalow on June 2, the keys were handed over to the department on Friday night.
As per a senior officer, the jogging and cycle track on the premises was left dug up and damaged. “Imported Turkish tiles were taken out from the swimming pool, and so were imported ceiling and garden lights. Floors were also dug up to take away the Italian marble out. Bathroom fittings, doors, fans and ACs are also missing,” he said. Even the sprawling garden and lawns behind the front and the back gates were left in a mess as exotic plants were missing. The property was renovated during the previous regime at a cost of over `45 crore in 2016.
Even a gym was stripped of its false ceilings, and doors and windows fitted with imported glass. As per a highly placed source, a list of missing things was being prepared and the extent of damage done to the property was being assessed. “A notice could be served on the house owner for recovery of those things belonging to the estate department, but only after taking the legal opinion,” said a senior official. Reacting to the issue, the SP chief, who was visiting temples in Mathura on Saturday, rubbished the charges saying that it was just a design of the BJP to defame him.
“A lot many things, including trees and plants, were left behind. The government should give me a list of the things that are missing, I will fetch them but they should also send my things to me,” said Akhilesh.
