PATNA: In yet another shocking video clip that has gone viral in Bihar, a teenage girl is seen being molested by a group of men on a road in broad daylight in Nalanda district. Police said on Tuesday that an FIR has been registered and efforts are on to nab the culprits.
The 19-year-old girl, said to be a student of a college at Hilsa in Nalanda, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s home district, is seen surrounded by about five men who are touching her inappropriately despite her protests. The miscreants are also seen trying to rip her clothes apart even as one of them films the incident on a mobile phone camera. One of the perpetrators, a middle-aged man, is seen physically lifting the girl and taking her to a nearby field of sweet corns.
After the accused circulated the video clip on the social media, the girl and her family were alerted. She reached Hilsa police station and lodged an FIR on Monday, saying that the incident took place near Bhareti village. She also identified the middle-aged accused as Shrikant alias Billa, a resident of Bhareti village.
“The incident took place on June 9 noon when the victim was going to her home with a friend and they were passing through the village. All the men seen in the clip have been identified. They are absconding. Raids are being conducted to nab them,” said Hilsa sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Mohammad Muttafiq Ahmed.
Inspector general (Patna police zone) Nayyar Hasnain Khan on Tuesday sought details of the case and asked Nalanda police to speed up the investigation and arrest all the accused promptly.
This is the fifth incident of molestation and rape attempts on women in broad daylight caught on camera and circulated on the social media in Bihar in a span of a month and a half. After the video clip of a minor Dalit girl being forcibly disrobed on a road in Jehanabad district emerged in the last week of April, similar incidents have been reported in Naubatpur, Kaimur and Gaya.
