Ludhiana: US-based Sikh radicals threaten Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu

Bittu is the grandson of late Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh who was assassinated by terrorists in 1995 in a bomb explosion in Chandigarh.

CHANDIGARH: Congress Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu has been threatened by US-based Sikh radicals, ‘Sikhs for Justice’. They wrote on their twitter handle, “SFJ is seeking referendum in Punjab For Khalistan. Bittu MP like Beant Is trying to label Canada-US Based 2020 Campaigners as terrorists. "Bittu" Any attempts to thwart legal process will be answered with equal force.”

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has been tagged in the tweet. This was done during an event, "Referendum 2020-Khalistan", in California on June 10. The intelligence agencies are on high alert.

Also another tweet by SFJ read, “Punjab #Referendum 2020 Banners in San Francisco Streets - Sending Straight To Ie Will Liberate our Punjab from Indian Occupation.” As supporters of this movement are carrying big banner of former militant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale. Yet another tweet SFJ wrote, “Independence of Punjab is the Only Solution || #Referendum is on the Way to Liberate Punjab in Year 2020.”

Bittu said he has already spoken to the authorities about the tweets. Bittu is the grandson of late Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh who was assassinated by terrorists in 1995 in a bomb explosion in Chandigarh.

Last year, the state government had given a bullet-proof Mitsubishi Montero SUV to Bittu after he was threatened by some radical elements.

Three videos have surfaced on social media where radicals, suspected to be based in Canada, have threatened him. In those videos, released last year, the radicals could be seen standing with the picture of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the backdrop and spoke, “You saw what happened to your grandfather. We will come one day and free Punjab and you will see it with your own eyes.”
