NEW DELHI: Days after a 45-year-old man was lynched and a 65-year-old was seriously injured in an attack by a mob in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, another video of the incident emerged on Saturday, which shows that they were attacked over cow slaughter. In the video, which is a minute long, the crowd can be seen abusing and assaulting 65-year-old Samiyuddin.

The mob forced him to confess that he was slaughtering a cow in their field. Samiyuddin, who survived the attack and is in hospital, is seen bleeding in the video, with his clothes covered in blood. The video shows 45-year-old Qasim, who later died in hospital, lying on the ground and begging for water, which he was refused.

The incident took place on Monday, 70 kilometres from the national capital. A photo showing Qasim being dragged in the presence of policemen had gone viral on social media, forcing Uttar Pradesh Police to admit their insensitivity in handling the case and apologise. The ADGP (Law and Order), Anand Kumar, said that the police were investigating the case and there would be no cover-up, after the victims’ families alleged that the police were trying to cover up the incident.
