DHANBAD: Despite an alert issued by the Jharkhand ahead of 48 hour bandh called by CPI (Maoists), railway tracks between Chaudhary Bandh and Chegro stations near Giridh under Dhanbad Division were blown up by them late in the night on Monday.

The CPI (Maoists) have called a two-day bandh in six districts in Jharkhand and seven districts of Bihar against the death sentences awarded to Maoists Praveer Da and Sanatan Baski for killing Pakur SP Amarjeet Balihar on September 6.

The incident took place at around 10:45 pm during which the Maoists triggered two blasts in a row, following which the traffic on both up and down lines on the route was stopped immediately.

Railway officials told that the intensity of blasts was so strong that around 2 meters of railway tracks on both sides were damaged.

"The blasts were heard near Chaudhary Babdh Station after Firozpur- Ludhiana Express crossed from there following which the Station Master informed Dhanbad Control," said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Ashish Jha. Both the blasts were triggered one after another within a gap of two minutes, he added.

He, however, confirmed that no casualty took place during the blast. "Further damages were averted due to the alertness of the railway officials who informed Dhanbad Control on time following which at least six trains were put on halt," said the official. Restoration of the railway track was started immediately, he added.
