IMPHAL: A day after a CPRF personnel was killed in a grenade blast at Nagampal area of Imphal West district, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said his government has "initiated a probe" into the incident and those found guilty will face action.

Umesh M Helavar, the deceased CRPF jawan, was a part of a contingent that was returning to their camp at Lamphel in Imphal West from Kangpokpi district on Saturday.

Another personnel, N Ramaranjan, sustained serious injuries in the attack.

The explosion is the second in the state since the early hours of Friday when an IED explosion occurred at Kangpokpi district, a few hours ahead of CM's programme.

Singh, who visited the injured CRPF personnel at a hospital here on Saturday, said it was an unfortunate incident in a state that has largely been living in peace.

"Manipur has been living in peace for the past 1.5 years. Miscreants responsible for attack on CRPF contingent will be booked soon," the CM said in a veiled reference to his government's efforts to ensure safety of its people.

Singh has sworn in as the chief minister of Manipur around 1.5 years ago, on March 15, 2017.
