UP CM Yogi reiterates commitment to bring about police reforms

Laying stress on time-bound promotions in police department, the CM said it would enhance not only the morale of the force but also create a good work culture

LUCKNOW: Reiterating his government’s commitment to bringing about police reforms in order to facilitate a better working environment for the force which ensures law and order, CM Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced a three-member panel with the mandate to recommend steps for strengthening and modernising the state police force.

Speaking on the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas here on Sunday, the CM claimed that 1.25 lakh constables were set to join the force after training by next year. The CM said a three-member commission will be constituted to give recommendations to improve the working conditions of the cops.

“By the end of 2019, 1.25 lakh constables will join the state police force and it will end the paucity of staff. It will help the force extending better policing to the people,” he hoped.

Laying stress on time bound promotions in police department, the CM said it would enhance not only the morale of the force but also create a good work culture. “As many as 9,892 police men were promoted in 2017 to be followed by another 37,575 cops in 2018 and it is a record,” he said.

“The panel will also address the issues related to leaves of the cops so that they can perform their duties without any stress and tension,” stated the CM adding that it was imperative for the authorities to make provisions for some leisurely time for the police personnel to spend some with their family.

The Chief Minister said the state government was taking necessary initiatives to support the family of those policemen who laid their lives in the line of duty.

Elaborating on the initiatives of the state government for the police, the Chief Minister said the Uttar Pradesh government has already increased compensation to the family of a martyr from `20 lakh to `40 lakh, besides hiking the amount given to their parents to `10 lakh.
