NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has contributed Rs 1,000 to the 'Narendra Modi App' and urged the party workers, supporters and well-wishers to make use of the avenue in order to encourage transparency in politics.

"I have donated Rs 1000. I will urge all part workers, supporters and well wishers that in order to ensure transparency in public life, this method can be adopted," Ms Swaraj tweeted on Monday.

In another missive in the microblogging site, she wrote, "There is need for transparency in public life. Realising the importance of this, one can deposit small amount from Rs 50 to Rs 1000 to the Narendra Modi App. Any payment made above Rs 1000 is not accepted".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official app last month introduced the concept of 'micro donations' as part of efforts to widen the BJP outreach.

The BJP website also allows donations.

Under new rules, political parties will have to disclose the identity of the donor for any donations above Rs 2,000, down from the earlier threshold of Rs 20,000.
