NEW DELHI: India is taking several steps to strengthen its presence along the China border which includes a proposal by Indo-Tibetan Border Force (ITBP) to enhance its surveillance and intelligence gathering skills, government officials said on Thursday.

The ITBP has already introduced ‘war games’ exercises for its commanders for better preparedness in order to face all types of conflicts at the disputed and icy terrain.

At the ITBP’s 57th Raising Day ceremony, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the government has decided to create ‘integrated composite border posts’ for ITBP in forward areas so that troops deployed in these difficult terrains get water in its natural form and the temperature inside is controlled at 20-22 degrees.

Singh said the government has recently provided high-powered SUVs, all-terrain vehicles and snow scooters for enhancing operational prowess  of the ITBP. He added authorisation was already given to the force to hire two helicopters for transport of rations and manpower.

ITBP DG RK Pachnanda said a proposal was submitted to the Union home ministry for implementing a Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System along the 3,488-km Sino-India border so that all tech-based tools for guarding border are collaborated for better results.
