JABALPUR: A photo showing diesel being poured from a can into the fuel tank of a modified bus used by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his just-concluded 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' went viral Friday.

Chouhan had ended the yatra here Thursday after touring just 187 of the 230 Assembly constituencies in MP which is slated to go to polls on November 28.

The opposition Congress latched on to the issue and accused Chouhan of indulging in an "unlawful" act.

The working president of the Congress' Jabalpur city unit, Vinay Saxena, said the act was unlawful as pumps are penalised for dispensing fuel in cans.

"We are going to seek action against Chouhan for indulging in this unlawful act," Saxena said. Prabhat Sahu, BJP leader and district in charge of the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, however, claimed that the can was being used to fill diesel in a generator, placed in the bus modified into a chariot, to run different equipments.

He denied that any rule had been flouted.

Jabalpur Petrol and Diesel Dealers Association secretary Asgar Ali Tayabali said that pumps provide fuel in cans only for emergency services like generators in hospitals and for agricultural purposes.
