National party vital for Opposition alliance, says Chandrababu Naidu

Naidu, who met a string of opposition leaders in the national capital Saturday, also said he will play the role of a "facilitator" in helping evolve a credible alternative.

NEW DELHI: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stressed on Saturday that a national party was crucial for an Opposition alliance against the ruling BJP at the Centre. Reaching out to heads of regional outfits in the national capital, Naidu stated that the economy was in a shambles.

“The youth of the country is unhappy. The economy has collapsed. There is no growth happening in the county,” said Nadu, while speaking to reporters. He added that the Narendra Modi government couldn’t take forward the good policies of the previous governments at the Centre.

During the day, Naidu met National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, BSP supremo Mayawati, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Niadu’s New Delhi outreach with regional outfits is being seen as an attempt to forge a grand Opposition alliance in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Responding to queries on the Congress being a political rival in Andhra Pradesh, Naidu said that it was not true since the YSR Congress, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, was the main foe of the TDP in the state.
