Jammu and Kashmir: Tributes paid to martyred police officer, Mehbooba Mufti condemns killing

A police spokesman said that wreath laying ceremony of SI Mir was held at District Police Lines (DPL) at Pulwama last night.

SRINAGAR: Senior police and civil officers paid floral tributes to Sub Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir police, who was martyred by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Sunday.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the killing of police officer Sub Inspector (SI) Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir and party activist by the gunmen on Sunday.

A police spokesman said that wreath laying ceremony of SI Mir was held at District Police Lines (DPL) at Pulwama last night.

Mir, who was working in CID department in Srinagar, was dragged out of his vehicle at Wahibugh, Pulwama and later killed in the nearby field.

Civil and police officers led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) S P Pani laid floral wreaths and paid rich tributes to the martyred police officer.

Among others who laid wreaths on the body of the martyr includes Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of South Kashmir Range (SKR), SSP Pulwama and other senior officers of police and security forces.

The PDP president Mehbooba, taking to Twitter said, "Again, a young budding SI Imtiyaz Mir & Mohd Amin Dar, a political activist fell prey to the cycle of violence. Condemning these acts of violence & conveying my heartfelt condolences to families of Mohd Amin Dar- our party activist and Sub Inspector Imtiyaz Mir".

Former minister and senior PDP leader Syed Altaf Bukhari also strongly condemned the incident.
