KOHIMA: In what appeared to be a case of negligence of the Nagaland Department of Power, a nine-year-old boy from Sechu (Zubza) area under Kohima district got electrocuted last evening.

Sources said that the victim has been identified as Hushe Thuluo-o from Porba Village in Phek district and a class 3 student of Lower Primary School (Upper) in Sechu (Zubza).

The incident happened when the child, along with a friend, were out in the jungle fetching pig fodder at the new site of the Border Road Task Force, about a Kilometer away from Sechu (Zubza). The death of the young boy was caused by contact with an 11 KV wire, which stood at about three feet in height from the ground.

According to the victim's friend, the incident happened while he was crawling under the wire. When contacted, PRO of Kohima Police confirmed that the incident occurred at around 1600 hours.

The police acknowledged that no high voltage wires should be placed at such low height from the ground and assured that necessary case will be filed against the Power Department.

Meanwhile, residents of Sechu (Zubza) have condemned the 'sheer negligence' of the Power Department and said that anybody could have been a victim under an 11 KV line which is not even three feet in height.
