KOLKATA: A fifty-year-old worker of Bharatiya Janata Party died after miscreants hurled crude bombs towards him in West Bengal's Birbhum district, police said on Sunday.

"Dalu Sheikh, 50, died due to a bomb injury on Saturday night," an officer of Labhpur police station said.

"The person is known to be a BJP worker. The reason of death can be ascertained after further investigation, " he said.

The officer said they haven't received a formal complaint yet.

Locals alleged that the miscreants who killed Sheikh were Trinamool Congress members and also said that the police arrived quite late after the incident.

State BJP General Secretary Sayantan Basu said their party workers are being targeted time and again by the Trinamool Congress men.

This cannot go on and the accused people should not be spared, he added.
